NASA’s InSight lander is scheduled for touchdown at 3 p.m. Eastern, 12 p.m Pacific. on Monday, November 26, 2018. The landing zone location is Elysium Planitia, roughly translated as flat paradise land. NASA’s mission goal differs from previous landers in that is designed not to study the geography of Mars, but rather the planet interior.

InSight, short for Interior Exploration using Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport is designed to study Mars’ crust, mantle, and core. It is expected that, through this exploration, we can learn more about Earth and other rocky planets and their formation.
