I had a wonderful solo adventure to the National Videogame Museum this lazy Saturday afternoon. Today’s goals were to delight in bits of nostalgia (8 bits, 16 bits …), draw inspiration for documenting the FHS Band show, NEXT LEVEL, and take my own detail shots of genuine vintage games on authentic hardware.

Here’s another one from Friday. I opted to push it to the cool side of cool. Because it’s cool like that. I’m feeling a bit more free to push my personal boundaries in image processing largely due to this year’s theme.

The band’s theme this year is NEXT LEVEL. Simply put, it’s a video game performance where the performers are “in the game”. So I decided to shoot images ranging from bold, rich colors and dynamic range, to sci-fi cinematic à la Tron (2010). I’m trying to throw in a dash of Blade Runner because, you know, who’s takin’ the pictures ovah heah?

On top of that, I had a bit of fun creating the season gallery on our school’s photo site. I used their built-in site editor and made it sort-of game themed. I used generative AI to generate 8-bit style graphics royalty free. It’s fun creating something like a cover image for a Chipotle Spirit Night album. Hmmm. They’re literally album covers. Proof that anything can become an album cover. Anyway, I created different blocks for the “game menu”: Select Match (game night photos), Boss Levels (expositions & competitions), Free Play Arena (spirit nights), Action Replay (videos). Lots of album covers. Thanks soulless robots!
